Pampering Your Skin The Right Way

posted by Mijas Inc

The skin is said to be the largest organ in our body. Unfortunately, like most things that are right under our noses, it is also the one organ that is usually taken for granted.

Here are three ways by which you can pamper your skin:

  1. A facial mask is a good way to make your skin tighter and hydrated. If you are suffering from acne, facial masks can help clean out your pores and exfoliate your skin.
  2. Another way to remove dead skin cells is by having a body scrub. The most popular type of body scrub is the sugar scrub. it helps makes the skin soft and smooth restoring its youthful shine.
  3. If you want to make your skin supple while losing a few inches off your waist, having a body wrap is a good option. Usually lasting for a little over than an hour, body wraps work by allowing your skin to sweat out harmful toxins while opening the pores to let in vitamins and minerals contained in the body wrap.

If you are worried about having to break your piggy bank, you can actually opt to buy your own essential spa tool kit and just do your own spa treatment within the comforts of your own home.

What is the Use of TeaTree Oil?

April 2, 2010

There is a long history of the use of teatree oil and it’s traditional uses.   The aboriginals of Australian were documented of using tea tree leaves for healing skin cut, burns and all the alike by crushing the leaves and placing them to the affected area.

What does tea tree oil contain?  Fair question, it contains consituents which is more commonly known as terpenoids.  This is significant because this has been found to have antiseptic and antifungal activity. Why would people use tea tree oils?  Tea tree oils are commonly used for acne and athletes foot.

Although this oil is natural, it is imperative that you also know a few safety concerns.  There are possibilities of allergic reactions that may include mild contact dermatitis to severe blisters and even rashes.  Undiluted tea tree oils may cause irritation, redness, blistering, and itching to skin.  You want to be careful of taking tea tree oil because it is not to be taken internally AT ALL.  Doing this may cause impaired immune function, diarrhea, and potentially fatal central nervous system depression or excessive drowsiness, confusion, and even may leave you in a coma.  Obviously, if this happens please seek medical attention if you experience symptoms of overdose; which include excessive drowsiness, diarrhea and vomiting.  Women, please do not this oil if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.  Lastly, ALWAYS keep your children and pets away from your tea tree oil supply.

Creating Your Own Sugar Scrub

Technology may have allowed us to do things in a faster way but it has also led us to be more and more tired with trying to keep up with technology’s own pace. Because of this, most people have found it hard to really focus on taking care of their skin. If you are one of them, then we have a solution for you – your very own sugar scrub.

In order to create your own sugar scrub, you need to have with you half a EFG Sugar Scrubcup of sugar, lemon juice (from one lemon), and a tablespoon of vegetable oil. If you want to go funky about it, you can have food coloring.

Once you have all the items, mix them in a clean bowl, except for the coloring which you can add only when the mixture is already consistent.

Another way to go about having your own sugar scrub is to add to a cup of sugar a teaspoon of glycerin and half a teaspoon of vitamin E oil. You can then sprinkle a few drops of your favorite aromatherapy essential oil like Lavender, Chamomile, Sandalwood, Grapefruit, Vanilla, and Geranium.

If you would not be able to consume all of your sugar scrub, make sure that you store them n a glass container with a tight lid. Avoid using plastic ones as essential oils can be easily absorbed by plastic.

The Science of Smell

Mammals smell through what is called the olfactory epithelium.  This smell organ is responsible for translating smells so that our brains can process them.  How smells work is that each smell is accompanied by a molecule.  The molecules have differing sizes and shapes that make different impressions on our smell sensory organs.

When they hit our smell organ, it delivers a specific message that we interpret and send to the brain.  The brain then has a sensory reaction to this information that results in the experience of a smell.  Aroma essential oils are a great way to explore this organ. Different essential oils will illicit a variety of response; lemon essential oil, for instance, is recommended to help treat colds and oily skin.
